Oprah is a real game changer
Some have decisive opinions on Winfrey and her ability to pull millions into her ego and in many cases amplify her message to those, whether they like it or not. All that aside, the woman isnt perfect, but has increased literacy, awareness and influenced many for the greater good. No one can fault her intention to take over the media world. Who better? And the notion that she happens to look like me, and had the same major as me in college as me makes me proud and inspires me. Look out world, here comes Ms. "O". All that money and media presence thus far, (the last 25 years) has been put to good use and not many can say that.
There are some MORONS who abuse their media influence (TUCKER CARLSON, RUSH LIMBAUGH, MICHELLE MILIKIN, BIL O'REILLEY...need I go on?)
Note to self and others....dont hate on those who dont project indifference and slander to get ahead.

Skee.TV Presents Ice Cube Ft. Maylay & W.C. "Too West Coast" Music Video

H.A.M. Of the Week Nomination goes to
The moron in the bathroom stall @ work that decides to carry on a phone conversation while blowing up like a volcano! 2 things. No I'll never ask to borrow your phone and whoever is on the other line (need I say more) Ugh!
Sometimes....its just a privilege
Its when articles as important as these come along, I tend to sit back and reflect on how much of a privilege it is to work in this building postwritersgroup.com. Yes, in this crazy media rat race, reminders surface that articulate the quality associated with this organization. Being collectively responsible for making sure as many people; locally, nationally, and internationally read impeccable editorial commentary. The ode to "fairness and justice" is apparent in article, along with the hope and change I still believe in. As do many. Those that do not...should. Even naysayers will have to acknowledge the milestones our current president has engineered.

HBCU BBALL
tryin to support HBCU bball but this CoppinSt/UConn game is brutal. UConn got trees for guards and Coppin got shrubs.....YIKES!
persistence. some call it drive, others call it, goin' hard. I call it determination
Thinking about the future. My professional future. Apparently I'm not a spring chicken. A damn near decade of print media experience under my belt and ten years later, one wonders, what the hell does that mean? In an industry that apparently "turns more tricks, than a hooker" (thanks Iman); where is it all headed? With a theory based advanced degree, application is now necessary. The wave of the media future is all about applications. Its time to get on board.... And its time to put myself out there.

Best friends and I watched the move a thousand time......Whats better ....guns, DeNiro, German engineering = CINEMATIC CRAZINESS!

Snowy Blues
Go out, stay in, go out, stay in....
Its 10:00pm on a Friday night and I survived the area's 1st snow of the year. Wasn't too bad, only 2 inches. Not the end of the world. Snow also means its not that cold considering. It was strange to watch my Chargers destroy the 49ers in my hometown (WHY COULDN'T THEY DO THAT TO OAKLAND WHEN I WAS THERE IN PERSON?) last night because everyone had on short sleeves. Ugh.....one day I will get used to this east coast thing. I used to always wonder what a white Xmas would be like, but after last winter, dammit, you can keep it. Spring, where are you? All that aside, not too many complaints, other than witnessing the twitter explosions about weaves on fire, wikileak madness, Obama signs the tax-cut deal, McNabb getting the bench for the rest of the season, and word that Lindsay Lohan will be getting out of rehab (AGAIN) at the top of the year. Some folks cant wait for 2010 to be over apparently.
I think I'll be staying in tonight, Maybe I'll decorate my damn tree (its been sitting in the living room naked for 2 weeks, thank goodness its not a real one)......

Returning to the Grind
Its one thing to write a few press releases for some NFL events and charities. Its another to have a minimal presence on a local online publication, specific to the town within a town. To copyedit and act as editorial sales support by day for one of the most significant publications in the world, is a great opportunity. All of these things are great but its time to up the anty.
A Communications masters needs to be put to better use. Newspapers for the most part have been good to me. The worry of newspapers as an industry within the media spectrum existing in a few years is apparent. I've had six months to marinate on the feat of a graduate degree and have come to the conclusion that not many black men have advance degrees. There has to be a way to capitalize on this newfound success. The path was bumpy but not as crazy as it could have been (I've heard plenty of horror stories).
Is becoming a freelance publicist the answer? What does that mean? What does a publicist do? An opportunity has presented itself, in the rarest form. The kind that shows up in the next seat on a coast-to-coast flight to California. Yes I can write. Yes I can do wonderous things on a Mac. Those things have been self indulgences, along with a few tricks picked up in school and on the day job. I have many of the skills necessary to conduct publicist type business. This should be a no brainer.
After talking to the potential client (@ 6:30am), a manager, and myself even, it seems that taking a chance and doing something I like to do as a legit side hustle is the way to go. If nothing else, I consider myself resourceful and as much as I detest cats, they tend to land on their feet most of the time. That mentality must be taken on to participate in the things I like to do (and eventually get paid for it). To no longer be a bystander in an industry I know a lot more about than I originally thought.
To objectively evaluate professional and personal self-worth is a lofty goal. I think I may be on my way and deciding to enter unchartered waters is the first step.
