The Status Quo

Its amazing what the rest of the country takes advantage of in 2011. Having Internet access seems like something "everyone" has but that is clearly not the case. The status quo apparently is anyone who has the means and the opportunity to access the Internet. This is not everyone. Minorities, particularly African Americans do not necessarily fall in to this classification, especially when it comes to high-speed access. Even if all the working-poor, lower middle-class, and middle-class Americans could afford to pay for a subscription to an Internet Service Provider, it is yet to be determined if high-speed, and/or fiber-optic systems even run lines in areas where the "working-poor" live. One has to wonder who has seen a Verizon FIOS, Comcast or Cox truck in their neighborhood installing, what legislation claims that everyone has.

So ironic this is your post. My colleague and I were talking yesterday about a colleague in Memphis (Principal) who does not have internet access after he leaves work because it is not available in his neighborhood yet.
